David "Free" Gutierrez

Coach David Gutierrez began playing soccer later than many of his peers, but his determination, work ethic, and passion for the game quickly set him apart. Raised in Long Island, New York, David understands the local soccer landscape and the opportunities available to young players striving to develop and compete at a high level.

His playing journey began in the CJSL before progressing into EDP and eventually competing at both the regional and national levels. David spent much of his youth with Juca's Soccer Club and Islas Malvinas Soccer Club before continuing his development with clubs throughout New York City.

David played two seasons at Eleanor Roosevelt High School under Coach Mr. G, developing into a creative, aggressive, and intelligent midfielder. During his senior season, he was selected as team captain, strengthening his leadership skills both on and off the field.

Following high school, David continued his development with the Borussia Dortmund Academy NYC under Coach Javier Martinez Haedo, further expanding his technical and tactical understanding of the game.

David later competed as a Division III student-athlete at St. Joseph's University, Brooklyn. During the 2024 season, he was part of a historic team that advanced to the Skyline Conference Semifinals under the guidance of Coaches Adam Brunengo, Steward Naula, and Alejandro Oliveros.

Following his playing career, David transitioned into coaching and player development. He earned his US Soccer National D License through NYCFC in March 2025 and continued his coaching education at the professional level. In May 2026, David completed the US Soccer National C License through Baltimore Celtics, a professional-level coaching license recognized by US Soccer, Concacaf, and FIFA.

David has coached with organizations including Juca's Soccer Club, UES Futsal, and TST Kosmos FC, working with players across various age groups and levels of competition.

In addition to coaching, David currently serves as an MLS NEXT referee, providing him with valuable experience at a high level of the game. His combined background as a player, coach, and referee gives him a unique perspective on technical development, tactical awareness, decision-making, and the demands of competitive soccer.

David is committed to sharing his knowledge and experiences with the next generation of players. His goal is to create an environment where young athletes can develop their abilities, build confidence, embrace challenges, and reach their full potential both on and off the field.
